DD left driver’s license in a European hotel, what to do?

Anonymous
It was an upscale hotel so they contacted us but we had left gor another destination abroaf. I asked them to ship to our USA address. I shouldn’t trust the housekeeper even though they called us tight? Do I report it stolen when I get back to the USA?

Is this a troll? The hotel called you and said they had your kid's license (which presumably your kid hadn't even realized, otherwise you would have called the hotel), and now you're accusing the housekeeper of theft?

Give them your address, pay them what it costs to ship the driver's license by DHL or whatever and stop acting so dim...

If they were going to steal it, why would they have called?

In the meantime, go on your state's DMV website and order a replacement so absolutely has one when she gets home. You (I guess?) could file a police report/freeze her credit if you are fearful someone would steal her identity.

It's a driver's licence not a credit card. Unclench. Get a new one. Problem solved.

Don't DL now have DL numbers not SSNs on them? What can someone do with a random DL these days?

You don’t need to do anything.
Apply for a new one online if you don’t think the other one will arrive.
It’s not stolen and you don’t need a police report for a lost item.
If she gets pulled over while driving she can tell the officer she has a license in X state but it’s lost and she’s applied for a new one. They can run her name/dob to verify.

Can’t file a police report for a lost license. Police write reports for investigative purposes or to document actual crimes. They take time, need approval etc. they don’t just write them for every singe citizen who “ wants a report”

Just get a new one? It's not a big deal.

If it were a passport, contact State Dept.

This is not a big deal: you can immediately order a new one. It's nice to get the old one back but not crucial.

And teach your kid to say "thank you" to whomever turned it in at the hotel, rather than accusing them of theft. That is, if you value manners and kindness, which from your OP, you may not.

Op here- Thanks everyone, honestly, I don’t know what to do. I will get a new license for DD (she feels awful), when getting a new one do i tell them I lost it? She doesn’t gave an enhanced license yet, I was pkanning on taking her to get one- in that case, she would get a new number right?

The anxiety and helplessness OP must be causing her kids. Good Lord.

I mean this nicely but....have you even googled this? I don't know why you are waiting around for DCUM advice. Google "lost license YOUR STATE". It will tell you exactly what to do. For me, it's an online form where I fill out my info, put in the credit card info, and that's it. You're making this into WAY too big of a deal
