We are going to attempt to use our Epic passes to spring ski at Park City. We aren’t planning to get Epic again so this is our chance.
Would you recommend staying at the mountain or town area? Struggling with deciding on location. We are going to Airbnb or Vrbo. Kids are all strong skiers, but it’d be nice for the teen girls to have access to town if they don’t want to ski. Any suggestions are appreciated. |
We recently stayed on the town site and really enjoyed it. Definitely have some back up plans in case the conditions are not good in April. It’s been kind of a weird season. That being said, there’s a free bus you can take from the mountain side to the town side, so they can always do that if they want to do more things in town instead of ski. |
The trails that take you back to true town side don’t hold up well in the spring. I’d stay on the mountain side. Or change your flights and go to Breck, which is much better for spring skiing. |
This April with the late spring break (14-18)? I would not go to park city that late in the season unless you don't really care about skiing. |
Eh, spring skiing is great if you know what to expect. There's something to be said for long warm days on a less crowded mountain. We almost always ski during the last week of March since our state district is evolved enough not to tie spring break to a religious holiday. |
You have several options, from Old Town (downtown area of Park City) to the Park City base area to the Canyons.
If there are problems on the mountain, like limited staffing due to storms, or snow that has to be cleared, they tend to shut the Canyons side down and open the PC side of the mountain. We stay at the Canyons a lot and this is a real pain, as you have to bus over to PC. Canyons base area also tends to melt faster given lower elevation and angles. This time of year I would stay either in old town or at the PC base. |
This week's highs in Park City are 52, 58, 62, 61 and 49. The snowbase was already well below average before this year. So, the skiing will be quite a bit worse than most Aprils. I wouldn't waste your money, personally. |
*before this week. |
Go to Breckenridge that late! |
Weather aside (and I agree with the warnings), isn't Town Lift a good compromise? |
As long as the runs down to town are still open, which I wouldn't count on as they are low elevation. But you can always take the bus to/from PCMR to town. |
For what it’s worth, we stayed on the town side in December when the strike was going on. The town lift was open tho town trails closed. so ski and ski out was pointless. That being said you could take the lift back down, but it took 20 minutes. |
Op here. We have tickets to SLC and Epic passes. Could buy Ikon and ski Solitude now. Or buy Brighton end of season. Both seem like a lot of $ for spring skiing. Plus we really wanted to try PC. Maybe staying in town would be better if mt isn’t in good shape. |
April skiing is risky. Others are correct that Breck is the best bet.
We went last April to Vail because our spring break is then. Totally lucked out and got a foot of snow dumped and it was great because no crowds. |
Oh we ski then too, but we head to Breckenridge. Late April in PC is very risky. Too low of an elevation |
