No more cellphones and laptops?

Any other agency implementing this?

Not mine. We do a fair amount of work travel, not sure how we would manage that without phones and laptops.

No. I’m assuming you’re referring to not bringing home your laptop and not using your cell phone after hours now that we’re all RTO?

If no laptop how would you do your work? Or do you mean they're giving you all desktops? We don't have enough monitors so that's not happening at my place.

OP here it’s absolutely no gov phoned or laptops if you don’t have a telework arrangement. No phones for contractors. Laptops authorized only for offsite contractors.

What agency? I worked somewhere at some point where we only had a desktop and had to check out a laptop when we traveled or if we needed to work from home. I don't even remember where at this point. It might have been early days at a law firm.

We had this at my law firm prior to 2005 or maybe even 2010. Can remember when we switched over the laptops.

No need for cell phones. You aren’t allowed to telework so none of us would pick up after hours now anyways, same with checking email. It’s wild to think what would happen in an emergency (I’m in an industry that does have emergencies) because how would they get ahold of any feds? You can get in trouble now for teleworking.

And do you find this problematic, OP?

This is so weird and the opposite of the innovation the tech bros are supposed to be brining to the world. Should we be using typewriters again too? Efficiency!!!

Why would they switch out all the equipment we have? Where's the budget?

Hard to say what impact this will have. Colleagues routinely work (unbilled) extra time because they have laptops and phones. And some don’t have desktops and use their laptops at work and bring them home.

From a security perspective, government and private companies hate laptops. When I worked in the government in a technology group, we didn't have laptops. We could login remotely but it was basically remote desktop.

If you aren’t allowed to telework, then you’d be in the office working these unbilled hours. If you’re in the office, why would you need a laptop and cellphone?

As for travel, isn’t there a travel freeze? How are you traveling without a work credit card to bill it to?
