Where to stay in Bali?

Anonymous
5 nights in Bali this summer with two teenagers. I’m so confused about where to stay. What area would be good with teens?
I’ve looked at some luxury hotels like the Ritz, but they seem to be in more secluded areas. Not sure if that would be good or not.
Thank you.

I've heard the Sofitel is wonderful

It really depends what you are looking for from your vacation. There are beach resorts and places inland among the forests/rice paddies etc.

If you are willing to make a drive (4-5 hours from the airport ) the Plataran Menjangan resort is outstanding. Peaceful, beautiful, lots of wildlife close at hand. There is also nice snorkelling etc, right there…. but… there is no nightlife, bars, etc. This is the place to go to avoid the party scene.

Where else are you going in your trip?

There’s basically two kinds of places in Bali - high end resorts tucked away in large tourist compounds (Nusa Dua) or hotels in the action with the clubbing and partying (Seminyak). Depends on what type of trip you are looking for. If you can squeeze in more nights, the real special place in Bali is Ubud. Do a few nights on the beach (or more) and some nights up in the rainforest/hills of Ubud.

We didn’t travel with teens, but we stayed in three nights at Hotel Indigo in Seminyak and the three nights at Four Seasons in Ubud. Both were excellent for different reasons, given their different locations. I think you should try to split your time between a beach location and Ubud. One night at Hotel Indigo was about one third the price of the Four Seasons, but there are obviously lower priced options in the Ubud area.

Teens would have fun in Ubud. They can do adventure excursions- hike Mt Batur for sunrise, white water rafting, ATV riding, etc. No shortage of things to do.

We liked Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua. Beautiful, nice clean beach, modest shipping nearby. Other resorts to dine at. Bali is very intense in terms of traffic and people and hustle and bustle and we preferred the "boring" Nusa Dua.

That's shopping not shipping lol. You can get safe cars and drivers for excursions.

I found Nusa Dua totally devoid of Balinese culture.

I recommend splitting between Ubud and then a more happening beach area like Seminyak.

Find out where the drunken Australians hang out and go somewhere else.
