I just had my baby shower and I got several baby carriers. Do I need them all or can I return some?

keep the first and third |
Why not just one? |
Keep the one that fits best to your body with a baby doll strapped into it. Check to make sure the baby's skull is well below your chin.
Also check your husband's preference. I'm petite, none of the popular ones worked at all for me. My husband liked a standard Baby Bjorn and an Ergo for an older child. He ended up doing all the baby wearing. I couldn't stand it. I either strollered or just put the baby on my hip. |
Keep the Forer one for sure. I also had the last one and can see how it would be good for newborns, but none of my kids liked it. The first one worked for my husband and me, and our kids all liked it |
To be honest mine were all hand me downs but I used at different stages. I used ktan in the very beginning with my first then switched to baby bjorn original and then an ergo omni breeze.
This baby I started with ergo embrace which is much much easier for me to put on and feel secure than the ktan... tbd what I use next. I think you could do just a single one but look for one that starts at 7 lbs... but my kids were born under 7 lbs so I had to wait to use carriers and the embrace and omni breeze start earlier than the bjorn |
I did a lot of baby wearing and used two of these extensively.
K'tan works great for a very small baby but it doesn't have a lot of support and will get harder on your back as the baby gets bigger. It did take me some trial and error to figure out. I switched to the Gemini more when my son was older and used that basically up until he was big enough he was either walking or rising on shoulders. I liked the cross strap feature along the back and the placement of the belt so weight went into your legs instead of lower back. It can work with a smaller baby, but the K'tan my kid took to better when he was littler. I can't speak to the other one as I never tried it. If you really wanted to keep just one I would probably keep the Gemini as the K'tan has a use limit just because it doesn't work as well with an older baby. |
Try them then decide. |
My baby liked the babybjorn but not Ktan |
None of these.
Look for a Babywearing group local to you or a consultant to try different styles. If you need a brand hope and plum is excellent and they do video consults for fit. My firstborn I tried so many. Now on baby number two and I'm using a ring sling and meh dai the most sometimes long woven wraps when I have the patience. |
You kind of have to wait until baby comes for this, imho. And you might actually not like babywearing (although I think that often stems from not having a carrier you like). I *loved* the Gemini and feel like it doesn't get a lot of love. I feel like it's somewhere between a wrap like the K'tan and something very structured like the Ergo.
My husband and I like different ones, and our au pair likes the same one as my husband, even though her and I are closer in size. But the good news is these are all easy to come by as hand-me-downs, so if you get one and don't like it, you can re-sell it. |
It's the one that fits you best. They are all very specific to your body, like jeans. I am tall and large chested, so the ktan wouldn't work, for example. |
