Infertility Support and Discussion

Can someone explain how this works. Somone posted that they were 3rd in line and they got crappy embryos. Is it that the couple that is first in line gets the highest quality embryos out of the batch on down the line or do they mix it up. Also, with shared risk do you change priority in line with each try, if you need more than one try.
I'm just trying to understand. I've done 3 IVF rounds and my embryos have always had the highest grade but none of them ever took, so I'm trying to understand. I'm 42 so DE is our next step. Also, what can you tell me about the DE bank. I know I won't necessarily get someone with my exact ethinic background and physical characteristics, but I was wondering how close we could come. I'm short, brown hair, green eyes, Jewish, graduate degree education. Thanks. |

Shared risk is either 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 meaning there is 1 donor to 1 recipient (1:1), 2 recipients (1:2), or 3 recipients (1:3). You get all of the eggs from the donor for 1:1, 1/2 of them with 1:2, and 1/3 of them with 1:3 and in the 1:2 or 1:3 you will only get eggs from a cycle if there are at enough for a minimum of 4 to go to each recipient. Obviously, you pay more for the cycles that give you the opportunity for a larger number of eggs. The priority for who gets the eggs in a 1:2 or 1:3 is based on a number of factors related to prior DE cycles - cancellations, m/c, etc. If you were 1:3 and were third in the first cycle and got no eggs, then you might be 1 or 2 in the next 1:3 cycle. And, all you are getting is eggs from those cycles, so nobody gets anything better than anyone else in the cycle since they don't grade eggs.
I will tell you that there are a wide range of donors in the SG pool, but Jewish donors rarely show up in the clinic pools if you are looking specifically for a Jewish donor. You are better off working with an agency to find a Jewish donor. You can still use shared risk with an outside donor, but some of the logistics are slightly different. |
| It's pretty easy to get a password that works for 48-hours so that you can check out SG's donor pool. I got one through the nurse I used for my IVF (own egg) cycles. Good luck |
| If you are in a 1:3 you can count on needing to do at least 2 cycles to get results. |
| make that 4 cycles and still nothing. |
