The upcoming election

Now comes the special election to fill Kwame's at large seat. The law says "In the event of a vacancy in the Council of a member elected at large, other than a vacancy in the Office of Chairman, who is affiliated with a political party, the central committee of such political party shall appoint a person to fill such vacancy, until the Board of Elections and Ethics can hold a special election to fill such vacancy, and such special election shall be held on the 1st Tuesday occurring more than 114 days after the date on which such vacancy occurs" so I guess the Democratic Central Committee will be getting together soon. Does anyone have any knowledge or prediction about whether they will pick a caretaker or try to anoint a winner of the special election?

I suppose the vacancy officially occurs in January; is that how you'd all read it, or might there be some way to get the ball rolling earlier?

Any thoughts about likely successors?

I will certainly do what little I can to prevent that. I would think that the unsuccessful candidates in the present at large election are likely candidates. So we still have a chance to have two Michael Browns, three Browns, and four MBs on the Council. I'm not advocating that.

Either way, I have no doubt that the best SUV-driving, AA male will win!

My understanding is that the Democratic Central Committee will pick a caretaker in January. The special election is expected to be in the Spring similar to the special elections for Fenty's and Gray's seats (I think that was April, but I can't remember for sure).
