CBP examination of electronic device

Have you ever had a request to submit your device and password for examination when entering the US? I just read the article about the French scientist who was denied entry, and didn’t even know reviewing the content of phones was a thing.

It's extremely unlikely for US citizens. They are clearly targeting people who have made significant public statements against Trump. That said, it's always a risk, especially for non-citizens. Think about what might be in your texts, emails, etc. Can't believe we are here, but we are.

CPB has always had that legal authority, but they exercise it selectively both because their resources are limited and because most travelers present no reason for more in-depth examination before admission into the country.
