I attempted suicide this past summer and ended up in the hospital under a TDO (temporary detention order). I stayed in the hospital for just under 72 hours, then was released.
I wasn’t allowed to own a gun for six months, which was no big deal to me. It expired in December. I just filled out into for a background check to volunteer for my kid’s extracurricular program. Will my TDO show up in my background check? |

According to the internet, it would in Virginia:

I don't know if it would. In college I was charged with 2nd degree manslaughter by an overzealous 24 yo first year assistant DA following a car crash that killed my gf. I was struck by a drunk driver and a witness said they'd see me and him 'racing' prior to the crash. That was false but it didn't stop her from charging me. About 6 months later, all charges were dropped but it was on my record. Fast forward 25 years and I'm a volunteer with the Scouts and it did not show up on my check. |
That is about a security clearance, not a run-of-the-mill background check. They're very different things. |
| Has not shown up on background checks for a fa.ily member who has worked in the medical field in FL, TN, and NC. |
Is the program run by the government? If so, they might be able to see it. If it's private, they are just going to see public records and a TDO is a health record. |
That’s terrible and shouldn’t show up on your background. Only actual convictions should. |

It’s not a government entity. Just a Girl Scout camping trip.
