If it’s your first time there, then definitely Sultanahmet. It’s the old part of the city where many of the famous landmarks are located. It has small boutique hotels and most of them have rooftop terraces/restaurants with amazing views. |
Agree on Sultanahmet as first choice. Karaköy is also good. |
HIGHLY suggest beylou. It’s sort of like the 14th street area of dc. It’s young, walkable, neighborhoody, and central. We had an amazing time at this Airbnb https://www.airbnb.com/l/4jhZd4Mh
Sultanahmet is great to explore for a day or two but it’s like staying close to the monuments, where Beylou is like a ten min taxi ride away and is hip and cool and I found to be a much better central location to launch from. The promenade up there was a great way to spend evenings. |
+1. |
Taksim Square/off Istiklal. I’d also say Bebek but it’s not as close/connected to what you’ll want to see as a first timer.
Sultanahmet is nice but it’s like staying near the Mall. You can easily take public transit there. Stay somewhere with more nightlife/culture that is less touristy. |
I’m the pp who said Taksim and agree with this. Taksim is pretty nearby. It’s a fun area. |
What are you looking to do? We stayed in Sultanahmet but I'm a history guy and we were traveling with a friend with similar interests and the stuff we were there to see was mostly in that area. |
Stay near Galatea tower, fun walkable, restaurants, etc. |
