Different funeral home policies on OPM life insurance access. Which is correct? What did you experience?

We are a few days into hospice. I have called locally in the DC area and received a variety of different responses.

My parent worked for the government and has life insurance from that job. OPM has to be contacted.

Funeral Home 1 says they file a FOIA act request and obtain the needed information
Funeral Home 2 says they go thru Family Funeral Funding Group
Funeral Home 3 says family must contact OPM, they usually reimburse after the family pays out of pocket

What is normal? What did you have to do?

Yeah you are going to have to pay for the disposal of the body up front. Cremation is usually cheapest. You will probably not get any money back.

Different situation, not OPM, but we had to pay the funeral costs upfront and get life insurance reimbursement after. LI would need the death certificate which comes after the funeral.
