I have just been trying to save money with the mindset that he will eventually do it. I have an “oh well” mindset now and have just started to ignore the threats. It is what it is.

I think he feels very powerful announcing his tariffs and imposing his tariffs — both on other countries and to the detriment of most Americans and economic stability. He simply doesn’t care beyond that. This way he can threaten to impose tariffs for another week or so, bask in the power of imposing anxiety on others, and either continue this pattern or pretend he’s “won” something by the 2nd — which will allow him to continue to repeat the pattern.

This is bullying 101.

I just posted, but this is what I wonder. How much long term damage is being done? The US needs to export. Yes other countries need to import but not necessarily from the US, not at the levels they have been. Hell, he's babbling about building second rate military equipment for allies, just in case they aren't allies anymore. I doubt anyone is thinking "oooh that's a good deal."

Once your former partners have opened new trade channels and made the switch, it’s very difficult to win that business back. I don’t think American bourbon exports ever recovered to Obama-era levels, and that’s a very distinct product with no real substitute. Commodities are relatively easy to replace. And some markets, once they’re gone, they’re gone for good. If China stops buying our chicken feet, chicken farmers are going to be hurting. No one else is buying them for those prices. Prices will go up on the rest of the bird for sure.
