wondering if anyone has a sense of how much car insurance will cost for a recent college graduate -
Assume a man living in Northern Virginia, a 2019 Toyota Corolla, no accidents. Trying to give him a sense of what he will need to budget for post-college graduation. |
| Your son will get more realistic numbers if he calls insurance companies to request quotes. |
His new zip code will affect his rate. It depends where he's living. |
| Are you going to title the car in his name? |
| It’s so varied. It depends on zip code, car, driving record, deductibles, coverage limits, etc. But here’s what we found for DD who had a new Nissan Sentra to insure. It was $3-$4k a year with a clean driving record. We ended up keeping her on our policy and adding the car to ours which brought it down to 2k. She reimburses us monthly. |
| HE NEEDS TO DO THIS HIMSELF. |
| My kid's is $3,000/year. Geico. 2018 Honda Civic. Not the best driving record and a few accidents. |
| Age matters too. Most car insurance agencies will reduce the rate once they turn 25. |
"Kids" aka adult children are on parents' health insurance until near 30s, why can't they be on parents' auto insurance until then too? |
How does your kid already have “not the best driving record and few accidents”? Doesn’t that concern you? |
Well usually they aren’t driving the same car, right? |
This is a stupid question. |
Nobody asked for your opinion on this. |
Nope. |
You can thank Obamacare (ACA) for the former. |
