Planning to go to Charleston for a few days in May. I've never been. Single traveler, middle-aged woman who loves historic sites and shopping and generally enjoying cities. How many days would you plan to be there? 3 days/4 nights? More? Is there anywhere nearby I'd want to make a side trip to as long as I'm flying down? Thanks! |
Did you make your plans yet? We did 4 days this summer at the Mills House. It was fantastic and I probably would have been better off without the kids (would have done a walking history tour for sure - we did the horse and buggy but I don't think the history lesson was that great to be honest.). Have a great trip! |
We did 4 nights last fall and it felt about right. We really enjoyed the city and did a mix of history and museums, food, and just walking around. It wasn't beach weather when we were there but in May you could add a day for the beach. |
Go see the 400 yr old angel oak near Kiawah.

Take a day and run up to Georgetown. Also history, shopping and restaurants. |
You’re sending her to the armpit of SC? On purpose? |
Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. https://www.southernliving.com/georgetown-south-carolina-11705584 “This spot on South Carolina’s Hammock Coast calls itself the ‘the little town you’ve been looking for,’ and it’s hard to argue the point,” Southern Living wrote. “Georgetown has gorgeous old homes, abundant Live Oaks, a walkable downtown, and the dramatic Waccamaw River bridge.” Best of all, the magazine’s readers weren’t finished with Georgetown. In the South’s Best reader poll, people voted on “The South’s Best Tiny Towns,” defined as having a population of less than 10,000, and Georgetown topped the list. Southern Living Magazine has named The George, a boutique hotel in downtown Georgetown, South Carolina, as one of the South’s Best New Hotels. |
