Concussions

How common are concussions in hockey? My friend’s kid plays rec ice hockey and already had at least 2 concussions.

Like any sport, it depends. Some kids make it through their whole career without one. I have two that play travel and neither has had one. Oldest just finished his second year of 14u and they haven’t been common on their teams. I can think of 2 over his 10 years of playing.

How old is the child? I’d be concerned if my child had multiple concussions from any sport.

Time to sport participating in any sport once one has experienced more than one concussion.

Multiple concussions result in depression issues later in life that may lead to self-harm.

Time to quit participating in any sport when one has experienced more than one concussion. (Can lead to serious dain bramage.)
