Love the few hours advance notice, so much transparency!
No changes to financial monitoring list. Cedar Tree: Staff recommends continuance. Hope Community: staff recommends conditional continuance. Says performance on numerous academic measures was "extremely low". Must improve performance next year or be shut down. I have no idea why this school still exists tbh. Wouldn't shock me if they voluntarily relinquish. IDEA: Staff recommends conditional continuance. School did not meet goals two years ago but substantially met goals last year. SPED compliance concerns are ongoing. Must improve next year or be shut down. Basically they're squeaking by because they have new leadership and a few good stats amidst the bad. |
Maybe there's less notice on the information because all of the schools are being recommended to continue? One would hope that if any were up to be closed that there would be more notice so that parents, students and the broader public can weigh in. |
I don't think so. Hope Community is clearly one of the lowest-performing schools in the city. It is definitely in jeopardy of being closed. The PCSB staff doesn't recommend closure unless there's really no other choice. But if you read the document the stats are baaaaaad. |
I think a few hours is a pathetically small amount of notice even if all the schools are doing well. |
This school system is such a shut show! |
Clearly not a "shut" show. At last night's meeting, there were schools that even the PCSB members seemed to agree should be shut but they passed with conditions anyway. One school admitted that they didn't even know if they could improve to meet conditions. A sh*t show for sure. |
