Forgive me for this very basic question but why is there no Republican challenger to challenge Gray? Also, why doesn't Fenty run against Gray as an Independent? TIA. |
I don't think any Republican felt s/he had a chance, and I guess nobody considered it a useful way to get name recognition.
It's too late to get on the ballot as an independent, so if Adrian wanted to run, it would have to be as a write-in. Given his age, I think he figures that patience is a far better investment than a run likely to be seen as futile. |
OP here. Thanks. I don't see why there are no challengers. I would think Fenty supporters and others (they all can't be supporting Gray) would support another candidate. It doesn't seem like a real election without more than one candidate in a general election. |
There's a Socialist Workers' Party candidate that filed the paperwork. The Statehood Greens had a primary, too. I doubt either one of them would be more likeable to the "keep Rhee, keep Fenty" crowd that seems to frequent the board.
Do the Libertarians have a way of getting on the ballot? A more moderate Libertarian that ran on a "keep Rhee" platform and avoided some of the "privatize the sidewalks" craziness could get 10-20% or so on that alone, I think. |
The deadline for filing petitions was 8/25. So anyone who wants to add him or herself to the mix has to do so as a write-in. |
