TJ student highlights the lack of TJ summer math classes for those who do not complete atleast Geometry prior to enrolling at TJ. https://www.tjtoday.org/40006/opinion/students-at-jefferson-should-be-able-to-take-more-summer-math-classes/ |
Those who have not done geometry yet before going CAN do geometry - the normal FCPS course - in the summer before they go.
The kid seems to misunderstand the summer sessions - the sessions overlap and you can only take one class in the summer per FCPS rules. So their double summer math approach would not work. |
Must be a great STEM school, because they aren't good at communications.
"take Math 2 (Geometry) over the summer to get ahead of your peers." |
Geometry should be required to get into TJ. Doing M1 and M2 at TJ is a waste. |
Since admissions change, each freshmen class has over 120+ students starting in M1 & M2 (Geometry). Pior to that it was about dozen students. |
Take geometry over the summer. Even Algebra 2 Freshman year means you only get one or two math electives before you graduate. |
How successful would an 8th-grade Algebra 1 student be in completing a full year-long Geometry course during a shorter summer session, and then enrolling in a year-long Algebra 2 course condensed into a semester-based TJ Math 3? |
They need to make Geometry by 8th grade a requirement for TJ. It will solve a lot problems and kids will come into TJ better prepared. It is also in alignment with Reid's goal of getting more kids to take Algebra 1 in 7th grade. |

It's a see-saw challenge! If the minimum math requirement is raised to Geometry, achieving diversity is apparently not possible. But now that it's lowered to Algebra 1, students appear to be complaining they're already behind majority of their peers and in catch up mode. |
Without Geometry, the student would need to enroll in TJ M1 and M2. M1 & M2 is collaborateive, and spans two semester. |
How difficult or easy is TJ Geometry compared to fcps middle school Geometry? |
Yep. |
