Bright orange when blowing nose

Anonymous
Sorry for the unpleasant topic. I just got back from a trip to Japan a couple days ago. I developed a cold while there but it was pretty much over after a week. I seem to have developed a sinus infection though, but my phlegm is not only colored (indicating an infection), it’s almost a day-glo orange! I’ve never had anything like this. I will call my PCP on Monday and see if he thinks I need antibiotics.
You would really think I had inhaled Tang powder or something. I’ve had this orange mucus several times over two days, not just once.

Has anyone else had this?

Isn’t that a sign of Legionnaires' disease?

No but you def have an infection. They should culture it. Good luck.

Yes my DD had this. It’s orange because it’s a mix of yellowish mucus with a little blood.

Forgot to mention it was due to a bad cold. No legionnaires or a need for antibiotics.

OP here. I looked it up and indeed, it can be from Legionnaires disease or, hopefully more likely, from Sinusitus. Thanks for the suggestion of Legionnaires. I’ll touch base with my PCP on Sunday to see if I should go to Urgent Care.

I…kind of want to see a picture? Move along and ignore me. Best of luck, OP!

You might try Neil-Med nasal rinse in the meantime

I've had day-glo orange as well highlighter yellow mucus at the end of a handful of sinus infections. It's also always been very thick and sticky, coming out in distinct globs, more like kids' slime than regular mucus. For me, it always signals the end of the infection.
