Fencing

My 8th grader just announced that he would really like to try fencing. We do not know anyone who fences. Do kids randomly pick up fencing in 8th grade? And if so, what is the best way to do that? We are in Arlington. Are there classes, etc., for teenagers who are just starting out? Any recommendations?

Plenty of kids start after dropping out of other sports. My kid fenced at Fencing Sports Academy in Fairfax years ago.

The equipment can be expensive. Check into that before getting hooked. My nephews did it for a couple years and are dropping now.

Nova fencing near the REI has good intro programs where you don’t need to buy gear.

We bought the Toyota of equipment and not the Lexus stuff. It wasn't that much and I didn't buy it all at the same time.

Fairfax fencers in chantilly, you can use their equipments for free.
