Recently I have found that the jumbo sized store brand chicken breasts from Giant taste like they have been "brined" or treated in some way to prevent them from drying out. They have absolutely no flavor and the texture is spongey, stringy, and overly moist. If I overcooked my chicken, then it should taste and feel dry and overcooked! I have bought 3 different packages and all have the same texture and non-existent flavor when cooked. Has anyone else noticed this change recently?
Does the packaging say something about the added flavor. The chicken at Costco has something about it on the package. I can't really taste it though.
No, the package doesn't say anything about added flavor. I have bought this product many times in the past, but have only noticed this change in the past month. Does irradiation change the texture of food?

Ew. Just, ew.
Leave the factory farm behind and start buying your meat from a place like this. Guarantee your chicken will have great flavor. It will not have hidden additives that the USDA allows with abandon. It won't make you sick: http://www.polyfacefarms.com/taste.aspx |
It is ew. Frankly I have resisted going organic because of the expense but I think that now might be the time. Thanks.

Don't buy them anymore-problem solved. You want good meat (chicken, beef, fish) buy that stuff at Whole Foods and cook it the same day. As far as produce is concerned, get it wherever it looks fresh-that could be Giant, Safeway or the local farmer's market which has higher prices but will be out of business come fall. Look for sales (but not sales that are selling any type of meat that is past it's due date). Buy the best and work with what you have.
