UC Irvine?

Anonymous
Anyone have a kid there now or recently who can share a little about student life and the experience in particular for out of state kids? What’s the vibe, community like? How are the academics, especially for non-stem kids? Just looking for a general sense of whether kids are happy there and the overall experience. Thanks!

I live in Seattle.

It’s a pretty local campus. I hate stereotypes, but all of my friends up here who went to Irvine are 1st gen Chinese-american, mostly with parents from Taiwan. The kids I know who go there now from our area are recruited athletes.

I think any UC campus is going to give you a strong education and lots of opportunity on the west coast. People I know there are mostly business majors or pre-med. I would be happy if my DD went there but if she did it would probably be because another UC didn’t work out. It’s not typically a first choice unless you’re local to Southern California and need to stay close to home or you’re going for sports.

Waitlisted but interested in hearing the vibe. From DMV.

Campus lacks diversity and feels like a commuter school.
