Solo-parent & kids summer trip ideas?

My summer plans have been shifting allll around!

My DH would like it if I can take our kids out of town the week he is taking a big licensing exam in June. He picked this date knowing it was in the middle of a 3 week period that we were looking at doing a fun, family trip and would be celebrating our DS's 10th bday and frankly he could have chosen any time but intentionally picked that week so whatever...we will go somewhere without him.

I plan on talking with my kids but I spotted a great flight deal to London or Dublin. I took the kids to London a few years back and they LOVED it and they have been asking to return so I could see if they want to do that.

More domestic type things could be taking the train from DC-Philly for a few nights (probably not the entire week) or seeing if my younger child (7 yr old who is quite hyper) could stay with my sister & have aunty/cousin time while I take my big kid on a special trip to NYC or another city of his choosing.

I definitely want to give my older DS a voice in this as part of his celebration.

Suggestions??
