There isn’t any chance all this ends well. We are spiraling towards a recession and perhaps something much worse.
The only thing I’m not sure of is whether or not MAGA will notice or care. They exist in a pretty air tight media bubble but the extent to which trump is tanking the economy and the speed with which he’s doing it is incredible and will be hard (even for him) to blame in someone else. Thoughts? I have a feeling republican politicians, at least some, will grow a spine when they see it’s affecting their bottom line. But are the everyday voters too far gone? |
They don't care because they intend to force interest rates to be slashed.
So they can ignore decimating retirement plan funds while they say "hey, look how low we made mortgage rates!" And MAGA will lap it up regardless. |
Nothing will shake the loyalty of Trump's cult. They will believe anything he says.
Trump won in November because he got his cult and he also got many Americans who "felt" the economy was bad. The latter group may, next time around, vote for Democrats or not vote. They will be pissed. Many already are. |
Do they go to the supermarket ?
Then yes. |
Do any of you know actual MAGAs? Republicans and MAGAs are not the same. I'm not talking about Republicans who voted for Trump because that was the Republican nominee, and they always vote by party line, but actual MAGAs.
The ones who wear the red hats, spend hundreds of dollars on tacky shoes, buy the fake money he issues, and have AI generated photos of buff Trump framed in their homes. Because I do, and one thing I'm not sure a lot of people on here understand is that they are poor af. I'm not saying all MAGA are poor, but an overwhelming majority are. Not only are they very poor, but they are always looking for someone to blame for being that way and Trump gave them several: illegals, wasteful democrats, "crooked" politicians, etc. Many of my MAGA relatives in WV had 'good jobs' for that area working in the coalmines. But when the mines closed, they had nothing. And they have never recovered from that. Other than mining, there are not a lot of good paying jobs for men in most of those WV towns. A lot of the towns aren't exactly booming with development, so there's not even many construction jobs. Going from making $$$ as a miner to working in a Dollar General is the equivalent around here of going from being a Fed to working at McDonald's. My aunt is a longtime manager at Dollar General in WV and she makes $35,000/year. That's the norm for retail managers there, too. Now imagine going from making $60k-75k/year as a miner to half that in a retail job, or even lower if you can't get a manager position. Trump gave them someone to direct that anger at: illegals & wasteful Dems. They don't care if the economy crashes because they have nothing to lose. Very few of my relatives even participated in the 401k programs when they had the opportunity. Most don't have mortgages. They don't own stocks. They have their own chickens and don't need to buy eggs. They don't care. They are delighted right now because gas is down to $2.40/gal in WV. And Trump did that in their eyes. They are hearing all the big numbers Musk is throwing around and they are tickled pink that people (probably Dems in their eyes) lost their jobs and are now going through hard times like they did. What they will care about and what will turn them against Trump and Musk is touching social security. SS is all most of them have for their retirement plans. If they do go after that, Trump and Musk are toast. Even though many of my relatives are on Medicaid, even cuts to that wouldn't anger them as much as any cuts to SS. |
I recently spoke with a coworker who is from and lives in WV. And she's deep in WVA, not Shepherdstown or Martinsburg. She sounds like Clarice Starling.
I asked if people around here are hearing the news about what Trump is doing and she gave an emphatic yes and said they are mad. She pointed out the fact that the Conservative Charles Town paper, last weekend vacated editorials in favor of publishing letter from angry West Virginians who are mad about job losses and potential cuts to their SS and Medicare/Medicaid. In Parkersburg WV, two hundred workers were laid off from the Bureau of Fiscal Service. That's a good portion of the town and there's nowhere else to work but McDonalds or Dollar General. So, I do think there is some hope that MAGA will wake up. But the brainwash is strong. |
They’re going down with the ship, OP. Their dear leader said we all must suffer economically. The drank the kool-aid |
Such a bleak and sad picture for them, but soon for a lot more people. |
