ISO part time cook/housekeeper

Anonymous
I've never posted, so apologies if in the wrong spot. I'm looking for advice on hiring a cook/housekeeper to work about 10 hours a week spread out over 2/3 days in my home in silver spring. Duties would include preparing meals for dinner, cleaning up and light housework if there is leftover time. I'm willing to pay between $20-$25/hour. If anyone knows where to look or has any leads, I'd love the input.

Put an ad on Craigslist or in the local shopper if there is one.

20-25$ an hour is not enough.

You want them to cook AND clean for $20?

I think we all want that and it doesn’t exist because there are almost no people who want to work 10 hours a week spread out over 2-3 days doing anything and if they do, the going rate is more like $35/hour, eg for part time elder care.

$20? A high schooler wouldn't even take on that!

I pay my babysitter $25/hr for 1 child. You will need to pay more.

That's why we need more immigrants! We need people to work these lucrative jobs Americans won't do!

Or we need to push wages way down so that the 1% can get cheap labor and everyone is vying to be your domestic help! Working on it!

For ten hours a week you need to make that a minimum of $50/hr., and you can forget about the maid duties. Chefs do not clean your house including your kitchen.

OP, 30 years ago I worked for a small catering company and the chef also did private dinner parties. At that time he charged a minimum of $1,000 for his services and we peons who did the prep work, served, and cleaned up afterwards were paid $30/hr plus tip.
