This seems like just the place for a random question!
My son is doing the Rock N Roll Half Marathon for the first time, and we want to go watch/cheer him on. Has anyone done this race before? Can you give us any hints on how people watch - where they stand, where they park, do you try to go to some place in the middle and then get to the end before it's over? We live in Northern Virginia - should we drive or take the metro? Would a car help us to get from one part of the race to another? I can't run a football field (probably not even half a field), and it's my son's first time, so any recommendations would be great!! Thanks! |
Ask your son. There should be a packet and/or website set up by the marathon coordinators with all of this info listed on a FAQ page. |
That would be nice, but I have looked through the entire web page and there is little to no information for spectators. |
My DH has done this race a bunch of times. I've spectated both on Metro and when driving. If I'm using Metro, I have gone up to Columbia Heights area to see him and then Metro down to catch the finish. I've also driven and parked on the East side of Georgetown and walked down the ramp to see the portion on Rock Creek Parkway, then driven over to the south side of the Mall (I park in my office, though there is usually street parking) and walk up across the mall to the finish line. You'll need to be tracking your runner on the app or be in touch with them so you know where they are and if you've got the timing right to see them. Now I mostly just go see the finish. |
I’m running that on Saturday again. There will be a ton of people. Maybe the hill coming off Rock creek that’s leads onto north capitol? That’s a tough deal depending on your son’s fitness level.
Me and another middle age dork will be out there keeping the 20 something’s honest. 🤣👴🏻🏃 |
