U13 Practice Times

Is it normal for U13 kids to have early practice times around Northern VA since middle school starts so early?

no. its whenever the club can get field space.

what is "early"?

There is such limited field space that you get what you get when you get it. You may have 4 pm one season, and then 7-9 pm the next.

Many coaches absolutely try and have early practices when they know their kids are out of school at certain times. In this area it's common for U13 and U14 to practice before 5pm since they are home from school by 3pm. That said field availability is always an issue, but at U13/U14 you're not competing with U12 and below for field space since 6th grade ends at 4pm.

practices are typically AFTER HS sports are done. typical time would be 6pm.

Fairfax county field
Permits in our area don't begin until 5 pm or latee (much later for HS fields)

My son was U13 (7th grader) last year and had 4:30 practice at a non-FCPS field. It was fabulous! U14 this year, same field and he starts at 5:00.
