Course preference form for Jackson Reed

Our 8th grader is filling out her course preference form for starting 9th grade next fall at JR. She's already submitted her application to one of academies but we're told she won't find out if she's admitted until early July. Should she still choose an academy pathway class as her first choice for an elective, or should she pick a different elective and submit a schedule change for the pathway elective if she's admitted to the academy?

Parent of a JR 9th grader here. It does not really matter. They give out schedules a couple of weeks before school starts. They tend to look like what was asked for. Then they hand kids new schedules on the 1st day of school. Then over the next two weeks they work out the kinks. The kids all seem to roll with it.

I'm convinced they don't even look at the course request form. My student didn't get what they asked for, had to change, and still didn't ultimately get what they wanted. I'm hoping it improves as they rise in grade level. Mine is a freshman.

Pick the academy course. Those tend to be more in demand and harder to switch into

Be sure to do your due diligence before signing up for the Biomed academy. Check out the recent thread specifically about it. Lots of families have had very negative experiences.
