We were at a small Anglican church in the area that folded, and people we know went to every church on your list but Shepherd's Heart. In addition they also ended up at Restoration, Trinity Church Burke (plant of Truro), Corpus Christi Anglican (a plant of Restoration), Resurrection in downtown DC, and Christ the King if you want to add to your list. At TFCA: - Sanctuary is packed for both services and about 200 people online each Sunday. Get there 15 minutes early to get a seat, no joke. - Love both children's ministry and youth group for our family. - 9 am has hymns and robes, 11 am has contemporary music - People have largely been coming for the rector's accessible but theological teaching, so I'd say the vibe has become increasingly academic in the past couple years. That said they have a very vibrant set of ministries so there is plenty of outreach to get involved in. Prayer ministry leans charismatic but absolutely nothing else about the church does, which is a little bit odd sometimes but in other ways a little bit nice to have that balance. Truro went through some incredibly difficult years (Google is your friend, I won't drudge it up), but their current senior rector is a great guy and I think the church has done a lot of healing from all that happened, but the difficulty took a lot of people out of the church. It leans more charismatic than some on your list. Big enough they recently spun out a church plant in Burke. Not sure on children's/family ministry. CCV is somewhat smaller if you like that feel and TFCA would overwhelm you. Still has children's ministry and youth group though, so there's programming. Somewhat more like the contemporary services at TFCA. What I know of Shepherd's Heart is pretty minimal, but it's going to be more "high church" than any of the other 3 options. |
