Is anyone else struggling with seemingly no availability to do a tour/visit to UMD? My senior was admitted but we cannot seem to book any kind of tour. Just me? |
My brother mentioned he was struggling to get a slot as well. |
Do they actually take roll call? If not, tag along once a tour starts. |
Every tour we have taken we have checked in before going on the tour. I guess we could gate crash |
We could not book a tour before DS was admitted, and the only visit was Admitted Students Day. I was a bit turned off by their seeming disorganization - we were able to visit other large universities no problem. The Admitted Students Day was also a bit disorganized. We liked his Honors College dorm, Dorchester, and that was it. He went elsewhere.

Do you know a current student who will give you a private tour? They could even show you inside dorms and dining halls, etc. Give you the real scoop. Otherwise, it usually works to tag along a tour at most public colleges. |
check March 31, I just found space there. |
OP, I think you should try this. Last year, my son had difficulty getting a spot in the admitted student days at a different college. He just showed up anyway. He went up to the table where registered students were supposed to check in and just told them that he wasn't able to get a spot but he was hoping they could let him tag along anyway. They were fine with it and even gave him all the swag/schedules/etc. that the registered students were getting. |
I called the school (not UMD) cause my DS was having the same problem. They just told us to show up and they'd put him in if there was room. |
Are you trying to go this month during the schools spring break cause that may be why you can't find any spots. |
When I called about getting a tour I was told that there were very few spots but the audio tour is good 🙄 I would think it’s not that hard to add more tours. |
I had to play around with the website a lot but eventually was able to get something booked, but it was a few months ago. Not sure if this helps? |
UMD is a popular school. Get in where you fit in. Don't be too proud to jump in on an existing tour. |
Same here! Doesn’t set a good tone. |
They don’t care. Kids love it once they are students |
