Military family of 6 (2 parents, 2 kids, 2 grandparents) traveling to VA beach area/Norfolk for two weeks in June. Looking for lodging suggestions that are kid friendly- likely a house rental. Thus far, I’m appalled at pricing ($10k-19k) or is this normal for VA/Norfolk Beach? |
Maybe look in Sandbridge? OBX also isn't too far from there if you don't have to be in VA beach everyday for work. |
NP here. You cannot drive directly from Virginia Beach to OBX (such as Corolla) because at the VA/NC border there is a large Virginia state park that you cannot drive through or even in. So to get to the OBX from Virginia Beach you literally need to drive to Duck across the bridge like everyone else. There is plenty to do in Virginia Beach. If you want a large house like the OBX then stay in Sandbride. The other nice area is in the north end to rent a house. Weekly rentals are expensive there in the summer, just like in other beaches. |
That actually sounds like a good deal for 2 weeks in prime season. |
Did you look at any of the offerings from Fort Story? The 67th St townhouses seem like a good option for your group.

A quick Airbnb search brought up a few decent looking options for well under $10K.
North End Va Beach: https://www.airbnb.com/l/1zBMLX9g Norfolk on the Bay: https://www.airbnb.com/l/SYj787Mg Old school Sandbridge with a pool: https://www.airbnb.com/l/WfDjWAob |
Those are great options! Small point of clarification in case it matters for the OP, the first link is actually by the Chesapeake Bay and not the North End of Va Beach |
Thanks for this!!!! |
You’re welcome! If the options near Fort Story don’t work out, there seems to be cottages at Dam Neck on the south end of Virginia Beach. I’m less familiar with these options though https://get.dodlodging.net/propertys/Cottages-at-Dam-Neck |
Try Furnished Finders |
Also Atkinson realty is the main company for VA Beach and most likely can find you something |
OP here, thanks for the great recommendations!!! |
Military has hotels and places. |
NP here. You need to be active or retired military or the family thereof to be allowed to stay there. These rentals are not opened to the general public. https://www.dodlodging.net/documents/NG_PatronEligibility-Sep-2017.pdf |
