So we all know that Mr. Zelenskyy was told, among other things, that he should be wearing a suit.
As an ardent environmentalist who is willing to throw out any custom that would reduce fossil fuel emissions, I look closely at unnecessary waste. Let's talk about men's suits. I have seen photos of men at work back in the 1940s in the summer wearing short sleeved shirts. Hollywood is usually good about this aspect when they do movies about the days before AC. You imagine the fans whizzing overhead and the water cooler. But you could not imagine anyone wearing a suit of any kind in that environment. When we ushered in AC, it is almost as though the sole purpose was to allow men to wear the ridiculous "business attire" that includes, and under shirt, a shirt, and a jacket, in some cases, a waist coat to boot in the summer! Are we expected to blow tons of carbon up into the sky so that men can wear this impractical attire? I am all for professionalism. However, I would not think less of a professional man who is wearing a short sleeved shirt with no jacket in the summer. Let's get real, (women generally need to wear more clothing in winter, and men nee to wear less in summer). From this article: "In Japan since 2005, the Ministry of the Environment has encouraged businesses and ordered central government ministries to advise workers to wear breathable materials and short-sleeved shirts while avoiding jackets and neckties in order to increase comfort while working with less air conditioning, which is to be set to around 82 degrees Fahrenheit from May to September." https://www.press-citizen.com/story/opinion/2021/08/26/summer-office-attire-men-gender-climate-air-conditioning-public-health-column-opinion/5587912001/ |
You don’t remember — or don’t approve of — seersucker? Or Linen? |
Cell phone and wifi use contribute to emissions and waste. Do you think about perhaps using less of both, and only for necessary issues? Something to consider. |
