NEED ADVICE/HELP - Still do IVF if your normal menstrual cycle is messed up?

Anonymous
I did a FET transfer in June (BFN) and ever since then, my cycles have been off, which I am assuming is from the PIO shots. (I am 33 and I have always had normal cycles and ovulation). I missed my period completely in July, had to take Provera in August to kick start my period again and now it is September and according to the recent bloodwork I had at my RE's office, I'll be ovulating late (somewhere between Day 22-25, when I usually ovulate around Day 12-14). I'm assuming my period will come in a couple of weeks after that, making it very late.

I want to get started on another fresh IVF cycle ASAP but I am wondering if I should wait until my cycles have gone back to normal. My RE says that since we are manipulating the cycle, I can start BCPs as soon as I get my next period.

I'm wondering if starting another IVF cycle would create eggs with poor egg quality since my menstrual cycles are still off and I'm ovulating late. I've read that late ovualtion often means poor egg quality.

NEED ADVICE...should I start another cycle or wait?

The only way my cycles are remotely normal is if I am on all the drugs (I am 33, but have DOR and endo, which can really confuse the heck out of the pituatary gland). If you are ready to move forward, I wouldn't worry about your system -the meds will get it back on track.

I don't think late ovulation necessarily means poor egg quality. Anyway, as PP pointed out, the BCPs will "reset" things and the drugs will manipulate your cycle so your eggs will be ready for retrieval according to your IVF protocol.

I personally would go ahead, but since you are only 33 (this is coming from an AMA'er!), I also don't see any harm in sitting out a cycle if it makes you feel more comfortable to do so.

I haven't seen anything to support a need for you to wait until your cycles are regular - and I've read A LOT on IF over the past few years.

OP here...thank you all so much for your input. I feel much better and I think I'm going to go for it!
