Has anyone tried both of these reformer Pilates chain studios? I’ve been enjoying RTR but now the location near me is moving. There’s a Club Pilates near me but I don’t have experience with them. Is it similar? |
I went to Club Pilates for awhile and eventually stopped out of frustration. The instruction was inconsistent, and they were pushy about buying packages and memberships. Planning a class schedule was also a pain because classes would be booked up for days (popular ones for weeks), with long waitlists.
Honestly, I don’t think reformer Pilates translates well into large group classes. Form is so important to getting the most out of it, and it’s best to have an instructor who can consistently pay attention to what you’re doing. I think Club Pilates and the like are fine if you’re experienced and just want the ease of taking a class here and there, but if you are new to the reformer or want to improve your practice, find a studio with small classes. |
RTR has the same problems - inconsistent instruction, classes booked up far in advance, etc etc. |
I enjoy club pilates. I got the unlimited plan and go probably 10 times a month. You have to get into a routine with scheduling classes but it's easy to get into them once you understand the system. Some instructors are amazing. Some are terrible |
Which RTR is moving?
I think for all group classes, you need to find the right instructor. |
I am also wondering where RTR is moving. Agree with what everyone has said – some teachers are excellent and some barely pay attention to you and your form. I do find RTR to be more challenging than club Pilates, but that may just be based on my experience with different instructors. |
No experience with RTR but I love club Pilates in Crown. Some of the instructors are really fantastic. |
OP if you could let us know which location is moving I’d appreciate it ![]() |
Appreciate the responses! The RTR on MacArthur in the Palisades is closing down. There’s still one in Chevy Chase near the Bloomingdale’s and a new one is opening at 4701 Sangamore Road, Bethesda. So no more DC locations. I have loved being able to walk so I’m bummed! |
Definitely prefer RTR to Club Pilates. Club Pilates over enrolls and it is nearly impossible to get classes if you have job or don't want to work out at 5 am. RTR isn't perfect and agree that instruction is inconsistent but booking classes is much easier. |
