A friend's college daughter was assaulted

Anonymous
Spring break from her DC college and a woman came out of no where and assaulted her. She called the police, she wants to press charges. I'm just so frustrated with the crime in DC. But, also, I'm assuming it was an untreated mental health issue with the other woman.

Same happened to me last week with a man. Good luck getting the police to take it seriously.

That's what I told my husband. 😑 We're taking her to a medical clinic because the campus clinic is closed for spring break.

I'm also the person with the friend that was shot in DC and it was called "assault" I doubt anything came of that either.

DC has a really great program for victims of assault. Definitely check in with that. It’s not an uncommon experience here in the city, though I wish it was less so.

I work downtown and keep an eye out — if I see anyone that looks disturbed on the sidewalk, I cross to tje other side. Someone got assaulted outside my office right ahead of me. And one day I was standing waiting to cross the street and a woman came running across the street and swung at me. She was so out of it that she missed me by like 3 feet and fell on the ground. I don’t know if it’s fentanyl or what but I did not see this kind of thing 20 years ago.

Doubt it's fentanyl. And I was assaulted by a mentally unstable woman in DC in 2008... it's not new. I get why mental asylums were closed but the "system" that replaced them was really no help at all.

I’m so sorry, OP. I hope she gets the help she needs. Not much hope in this city for justice. We moved away from downtown after 20 years. Still in the city but a suburban part, and crime lingers near and in metros and buses. I’m always aware, with two girls, of what could happen. I hope they’ll go to college somewhere safe (unlike me- I went to city schools and chose to live in dicey areas in my 20s).
