APS Private Extended Day Options

Anonymous
FCPS has had waitlists forever for SACC, so there is a deep network of private providers of aftercare like study schools and tae kwon do places. They pickup the kids and drive them to their facility.

We are at a NA elementary and have been on waitlist for extended day all year, and with RTO it’s now a crisis because we don’t always make it back.

Are there any private extended day options in Arlington that pickup at the school?

Some of the local martial arts schools used to pick up students after school and some offered morning care too.

YMCA used to have a before and after care program before Covid.

Any links to martial arts programs? Googling has been a bust for me

Have you asked the school if they have any suggestions? They would know who comes to pick up kids, I think.

I know US Taekwondo College out of Seven Corners picks up at Cardinal and Falls Church, but not sure about Taylor

How old is the kid?

If you were really working from home and child was letting themselves in and not bothering you then kid could take bus home and wait for you.

That’s what us Gen X kids did from pretty young.

They absolutely could be home alone, and if we had bus service they would be. We are zoned as walkers but it’s a long 0.5 mile walk with lots of thoroughfare roads and of course school pickup traffic

Our elementary school has after school enrichment classes most days. Could you sign up for those?

We have, but that is a very expensive way to get extended day, I’m not sure if it might be cheaper to get a nanny somehow.

Also, they are not every week of the year. They only go for like 10 weeks at a time three times a year.
