Diet meds while breastfeeding?

Anonymous
I need to lose 20 pounds. I’m still BFing and will be for about another year. Has anyone taken the meds while BFing?

I can’t believe there’s research on this. I mean ask a doctor, but I don’t see why you wouldn’t wait or wean.

A simple google search shows that there is very little research on this but it's considered a bad idea to risk passing the medication onto your child through your breastmilk.

If you BF, you don’t need diet meds. BFing burns so many calories. BF and pump will burn lots of calories.

OP, you are allowed to stop breastfeeding. Take your diet medicine and enjoy your healthy, formula fed baby with a clear conscious.

I guess it depends on the person. I didn’t lose my last 10-15 lbs until I stopped. Anyways, I hate when people say this as it didn’t ring true for me. You’re also likely to have decreased calorie burn/no time to exercise.

Absolutely not. Do not take died meds while breastfeeding. Do you have any critical thinking skills?

Stop. How old is your baby?

I actually lost weight while I was pregnant and gained weight while I was breastfeeding.

Some women retain weight while they're breastfeeding so they can, you know, nourish their child. If you want to lose weight, wean your baby first. Otherwise you're just a selfish horrible parent.

Hard no. Wait or wean.
