The Crown: Is the Diana/Dodi storyline accurate?

In The Crown, Mohammed Al Fayed masterminds their relationship. Then Diana breaks up with Dodi shortly before the accident. Did this actually happen?

I didn't pay much attention to the news coverage of them in the 90's.

+1, the show is based on a combination of truth, speculation based on truth, speculation based on rumors, and straight up fiction for dramatic effect.

You should take everything in that show with a big grain of salt. They get many things very accurate but they also take a lot of liberties. Assume that anything that involves these people interacting in private -- that's all imagined.

Absolutely not. Diana was still in love with Hasnat Khan, Dodi was a fun fling who served a number of purposes. She was not in love with him.

My feelings: Dodi was a fling. Not sure when Diana would have ultimately married anyone.

The Crown really downplays this relationship. You might think from the show they only dated briefly, but it was actually around 2 years.

I should clarify I meant Khan, not Fayed. She was serious about Khan but they tried to keep it out of the media because it would interfere with his life too much.
