I’m almost 10 weeks pregnant and ever since I got pregnant I’ve been craving a hot dog so bad. I’ve heard that pregnant women cannot eat them for listeria risks. But I might just cave in and eat one. Of course I have to make sure it’s fully cooked.
Has anyone had boiled hot dogs while in their first trimester and everything was ok? |
I would think the nitrates are the bigger concerned unless you eat a cold hot dog. That said, I imagine one would be fine occasionally. |
Of course it is fine. Have you ever gotten listeria from a hot dog before? No. |
Cook it and it will be fine |
A Nathan's hot dog, cooked until charred, on a potato roll with mustard and relish? Wonderful, I'll take 2, please. |
OP here- thanks for your responses.
How about heated turkey? |
You can get hot dogs without nitrates if that's the concern.

More people get listeria from salad than hot dogs or turkey meat. Have the hot dog. Have the sandwich. |
Read Expecting Better, she really breaks down the risks. A lot of the advice is out of date. |
Yes - eat the hot dog! |
+1. Not even a question. |
We heat our deli sliced turkey from WF now. Tastes like cr@p. |
I'm extremely risk averse and had a couple well cooked during first pregnancy and kid is fine |
