What's your plan for your parent given the political situation?

Out of nowhere, we have Medicare and social security being threatened.

We have the chance that even American citizens might be deported, and some of these humans care for our parents.

Will you take your parents into your home if there's no one left to care for them? Or if your parent can no longer afford care?

We don't have room to take in the parent, and we don't have the medical knowhow to handle the daily tasks to keep the elder person alive. There's a lot to it and one needs training and hours a day.

They can move in with Musk. He can deal.

Mom doesn't get SS because she was in a windfall state. She probably has enough to live on.

You don't need training, just time. We had to do it years ago for my MIL. Space wise it was a nightmare as we have a very small house so we had to give her a bedroom.

My parents are refugees from Ukraine, both receiving Madicaid so far for the last three years.

We are alone. We will die like the Hackmans.

My 91 year old mother is moving to Thailand in June, under the care of my diehard Trump-loving brother and Thai sister-in-law.

Hopefully her church will take her as that’s where she donates a ton of money or maybe a year long cruise?

Are you worried they will be deported?

Mine are dead so we are fine.

You really have NO OTHER PRESSING PROBLEMS?

We're all concerned with this wannabe authoritarian government right now, but come on. There are so many problems that will come to fruition this year. This one might not actually happen.

Don't borrow trouble, OP.

I don't think this concern is ridiculous. If Medicaid was the parent's plan for LTC when/if necessary, then there is a very real chance that won't be the case. Can't imagine if they cut Medicaid LTC, then turn around and slash Medicare/Social Security or make it close to impossible to obtain it, e.g., screw up the check amount, then need to drive hours for an in-person meeting as there is no longer a local/regional office/no one answers the phone.

My mom is in a nursing home on medicaid in the memory care unit. It's literally unsafe for her to live anywhere else, including with us. I don't knwo what will happen

Nothing. They have enough to live on even if Medicare gets taken away not that this will happen. They will be fine and have enough for the next 15+ years. They're upper 80s.
