Opus Dei

What's the story on them in the D.C. area? I know they run the Heights and Oakcrest but it seems as if they're all over politics, various churches, and tons of out reach.

Are they? I have not noticed this, and my kids have been in Catholic school here for the past 7 years. Most people are pretty liberal around here.

Please tell us all how you "know" this.

DP but it does specifically say so on the Heights own website, so it is hardly a secret it’s Opus Dei.

Does anybody know if the rumors that JD Vance is Opus Dei are true?

JD is not Opus Dei. he is a fairly recent Catholic convert. Not sure why you would believe this, but I do happen to know this through close friends.

Opus Dei has always been affiliated with money and power since it's origins in Spain. Look at Latin America as well. If you look at the history of Opus Dei in Latin America , it is usually inextricably linked to right wing authoritarian regimes.

I have read about JD Vance's conversion and there didn't seem to be any Opus Dei link. But, for what it's worth, I know other former evangelical converts to Catholicism whose kids attend these schools. Certainly any Jesuit school would be far too lefty for their sensibilities.

I am curious which parishes JD attends or finds acceptable. The Arlington diocese is pretty conservative and Scalia's son is a pastor in one (and quite respected from what I hear).

Heights is a great school. Friend's DS goes there and we considered it too, but couldn't afford.
