Book Club Ideas needed

What are some great choices for a Womens book club with a focus on light, fun reads? Books that would inspire conversation around various themes, strong character development, etc. Looking to bring together a group versus have controversial discussion. Thanks!

Just finished Shark Heart. Quirky, light, but interesting. Women gets married to a man who, through a genetic mutation, turns into a shark.

Two I read recently on recommendations. One new, one older.
The Wedding People

Elin Hildebrand, The Identicals or Five-Star Weekend

The Identicals is a spin on the Parent Trap, two adult identical twins who spent most of their lives on different island (Nantucket & Martha's Vineyard) switch islands/lives for the summer.

Five-Star Weekend: A woman brings together 4 friends from different stages of her life for a weekend on Nantucket.

Margaret Renkl, The Comfort of Crows
A collection of stories about the animals/plants in her backyard, this may not sound super compelling but it's beautifully written and feels very relevant.

How literary is this group? My mom's book club reads much more serious/literary stuff than what I tend to like.

Assuming you don't need super literary:

The Rosie Project - It's a little older but I just read and really loved it, on a friend's recommendation

Annie Bot - a short, really engrossing novel about a sex bot who seeks autonomy (this one is pretty literary but I know my mom would hate it; I usually use her as my metric for what a book club will and won't like)

Wedding People - you might love it or hate it, but I thought it was good reading! It tries to tackle some serious stuff - somewhat successfully - but is also a fun romp about a woman whose husband's left her who's figuring out what comes next (TWs: there is some talk of suicide and death)

DC local Linda Holmes has a new book out about a podcaster searching for love - I am not a big romance reader, so I haven't read more than her first novel but I know a lot of people really love her work

You have to give us some recommendations from your Mom’s club too!

On the lighter side, lately I've enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures, Embassy Wife, and The Fortunes of Jaded Women.

I can give you a few of her recent reads!

Horse by Geraldine Brooks - she loved this one
The Lion Women of Tehran - she LOVED this one
The Vegetarian - she hated this one; like months after reading it she's still saying how much she hated it - but all the stuff she hated sounds like things I think I would like, so I might read it

Basically, she and her friends are always reading Barbara Kingsolver-type stuff. And who doesn't love BK? (Me, I like shorter books.)
