what's the difference between Williams and Davidson?

boy, won't be on a sports team, will be interesting in IB (possibly) so dont want to get shut out by firms that come and only take athletes.

has great stats but doesnt need to be at "best". wants opportunity - internships, etc

They are both great schools. Williams is an order of magnitude more selective.

Williams alum who then did i-banking. I'm not sure where this stereotype on this board of Williams only being for athletes, athletes only being recruited, etc came from? I can only think of a few athletes who went the i-banking route. Many go onto more of an equities path, lots to real estate, etc. I was in banking in nyc for years, and everyone at my firm (one of the largest banks) recruited from their alma mater, so I saw the graduating classes for years and who was applying for banking.

A bit of a contradiction. Not good prospects for a non-athlete male at Williams College targeting IB, but Davidson College is not a strong school for IB placement.

Why not attend a National University ?

In the nicest way to put this, go to Williams if all you’re interested in is economics and getting an IB job. You can find a more inspiring class of students at almost any other liberal arts college.

...and you are an athlete who will play on an intercollegiate team at Williams.

Over 40% of the students are athletes. Not club athletes, but on the teams. It's a big number.

The difference is Williams is a bit overrated, and the cons of an athlete-heavy student body in a rural town can be incredibly isolating. Williams is for the right (white) kind of student.

Davidson has D1 athletics. Williams is D3

My Asian kid doesn’t feel out of place at Williams though she is quick to say that it is very different than her Bay Area home.

Both are great according to families we know with kids at both. Definitely visit to assess fit.

Davidson sports is higher level (D1) while Williams like most LACs is in D3.

Williams is more rejective in terms of admission rate as you probably already know.

Why is everyone talking about Williams now? It is a decent school, but people talk of it like it's Princeton or something.
