| Considering the Bethesda Super Y league for this summer. This is for our U14 boys. It would mean not being able to play in our own club’s informal and not very challenging summer league. I also don’t want his coach to be upset and retaliate with less playing time. We plan to stay at our club next year for growth and development. Is the league worth it, challenging but also fun? Thoughts? |
We did it once, but the weather was horrible. |
| Very expensive and lots of practices cancelled but if you can afford it, it can be fun and gives you summer games. |
| Very. Very. Very Hot. |
| Depends on the coach. If it’s a bad coach, not worth your time or money. You are better off training |
| They haven't canceled practice in a couple years - since the current super y director who has been there 2 years. She is great and makes sure nothing is canceled except for extreme heat. My son had played every summer since ulittle and the heat doesn't bother him at all so it depends on your kid. The competition is average, compare it maybe to edp 2 or 3 depending on the team. He does it more for fun. The coach is Wendell and he's been there for a long time. The practice are sometimes combined with u15. If your coach gets upset about what your kid does in the summer.. that's a them issue. My son said he wants to play again. |
| super WHY is not worth it regardless of the club. |
| Does anyone know when the super y game schedule is typically released? |
June. Clubs have to schedule their own games |
| If you play with a different club and the team qualifies for nationals, they will not take your kid. Just something to know in advance. |
This is allowed under the Super Y rules. Only 25% of the players that go to nationals had to have played at least 4 games over the summer. |
Just cause it’s allowed doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. I’m sure it’s not limited to Bethesda but I always found it pretty sh*tty that girls who play all summer and earn the invite then get passed over for girls who don’t play. But hey, it’s all about winning right, not what’s best for the girls. |
I agree. It’s tricky though. My child will be playing Super Y under a different umbrella than their primary club. I guess that is how it gets tricky when you transition past the summer. I may change my tune if my child is a significant contributor but right now we are simply looking for quality touches and we will see how it turns out. Alexandria made Summer Y participants make a refundable deposit so I think they may honor the people kids who get them there which I do think is right. |
Bethesda has also passed over 2nd team kids from their own club who played on the top Super Y team and were major contributors. Top team kids who didn’t play Super Y displace them if they want to go. |
