Real estate issues aside- who is going to be responsible for weather forecasting for the nation if NOAA isn't able to perform one of it's core functions? Is there a scheme for Starlink to take over weather forecasting? (This is such a bad f'd up dystopian sci-fi novel right now....)
Can we just start an X campaign to have pasty face EM focus on using his rockets to push the 2032 asteroid out of the way instead of messing up our country? (sigh) https://www.axios.com/2025/03/03/doge-noaa-weather-building-leases-trump |
The plan from the traitor party for a long time has been to privatize NOAA, and make any weather data pay-to-play. |
| Yes, of course there is. Just read it in theWaPo this morning. Pay $280 million dollars to buy the presidency. Then fire everyone who holds any oversight into investigating your faulty business projects, you know like when rockets explode in space. Then rob the US by installing your employees into special government positions with no oversight (during a hiring freeze when you're firing everyone). Then have your employees award you billions and billions of dollars worth of contracts to run the weather systems and overhaul the FAA. Perfect plan. |
Contracts mean jobs, will there be jobs for all these people getting laid off? |
Gotta pay to find out if the tornado is going over your house? |
Forecasting of tornadoes and other severe storms by NOAA scientists has had varying levels of success throughout the years. NOAA's National Weather Service and its predecessors have predicted and warned communities of these severe weather threats with ever-increasing accuracy, saving countless lives and billions of dollars. https://celebrating200years.noaa.gov/magazine/tornado_forecasting/ |
| What’s particularly awful is that we are losing a ton of talent that may never return plus facilities that we can’t just reopen on a dime. We are wasting so, so much money doing this. The deficit is going to balloon even more when we have to fix all the damage he’s causing. I’m in my 50s so it doesn’t matter that much for me but I feel so bad for my kids, nieces and nephews, and their kids. What a mess we are giving them. |
| We can only hope that Europe will help us out with tornado warnings. Geez. |
| NOAA spends lots of manpower on climate change and related projects, and my guess is that is where the cuts will be, not on bread and butter weather forecasting. |
This. If Dems keep crying wolf at each and every spending cut, they will find there is no "blue wave" midterms in two years. Better to be thoughtful about throwing around alarmist thoughts. Remember, you do not have the majority of the country behind you. There are some actual concerns, but assuming all weather forecasting will be gutted is not one of them. Settle down. |
I'm an independent and I know that radical conservatives want to privatize NWS. 8 am a taxpayer, I paid for it. DOGE does not get to sell it off to some Richie who will overcharge and run it into the ground. 60% of Americans in a recent poll found all federal workers to be essential. All of them. |
