Jackson-Reed experience

Anonymous
We are moving to DC with a teen. Wondering if Jackson-Reed is a good school academically? Can it be a good fit for a quiet, non sporty, non-binary kid passionate about the arts, strong academically and who would join JR in 10th grade? How is college placement?

Any feedback and advice from current parents would be very helpful, thanks.

I’d recommend a search, as this question gets asked every few months and generally receives lots of replies.

JR is a big, diverse school with a wide range of academic offerings, including about 30 AP classes, and tons of activities and clubs. It’s extremely LGBTQ+ friendly (one of my kids is LGBTQ+ and loved their experience). Not sure what sort of arts your kid is into, but there’s a robust theater program and some interesting visual arts classes. Plenty of kids don’t play sports.

Check out instagram to get a sense of colleges; you can find the last few years’ classes by searching “jackson reed” and the class year. Kids go to state schools, SLACs, HBCUs, Ivies, etc.

Good luck!
