FB algorithm constantly pushes heartbreaking stories, preying off my new mom anxiety

Anonymous
I feel like my algorithm constantly pushes me triggering stories of children dying or having freak accidents. As a new mom, it's so jarring and I end up thinking about it for days. I've tried to click 'not interested' every time to try to balance my algorithm but it doesn't seem to be working. My DH never gets these and sees how these impact me.

Does this happen to anyone else? Other than deleting all social media what can I do? Even the News app seems to be skewed to take advantage of my mom anxiety.

Please get TF off Facebook. It's ruining our country and your brain.

My Facebook is all paintings, recipes and house listings. Try looking up positive content you like a lot, several days in a row if you have to keep it at all ( I have lots of family abroad on it and want to see their content)

I deleted my Reddit account and app for this reason. Even after I deleted my account, the app would track me and feed me horrible stories. Now I just google any subreddits I want to read and don’t get sucked in by a feed.

THIS forever. Anyone still on FB is doing it to themselves at this point. It's an intentionally manipulative misery machine. Delete your account.

Easy solution.

Change what you look at. I watched one video on thyroid supplements and the next day my feed was flooded. Skip anything that isn’t a happy puppy video for a while.

Isn't it targeted by what they think you'll want to watch or read? Start looking up videos and stories of cute animals and other things like that. When these things pop up in your feed, click on the articles and videos. I think that's how it will change.

Why not get off FB?
It's owned by an oligarch who wants to destroy our democracy.
Try BlueSky. It's better.

It’s happened to me all 3x I’ve been postpartum, on any social media (Instagram, x, fb, and so on). While I was late pregnancy, I got a lot of stillborn stories and videos. When I gave birth, it switched to SIDS. I had a horrible time with it during the first, and when I had subsequent children I knew to just get off and stop mindlessly scrolling

Click Not Interested in a few and take a couple of days off from FB. The algorithm will adjust.

Months or years ago, you yourself told the algorithm you like to click on these types of stories.

Start there.
