Baltics?

Anonymous
Planning a trip to the Baltics in early summer, possibly including Finland or Poland, possibly just doing the Baltics themselves. We have two weeks total. We like good food, a mix of cities/museums/nature/cycling/spa stuff. Family of four with two older teens.

Any advice/must sees/avoids?

Old cities in Riga and Vilnius are both lovely. I just couldn't shake off the feeling that all the murdered Jews that used to live there were walking alongside me. But may not matter to you.

Please stop saying “doing the” when you’re talking about taking a trip. “I’m DOING THE Alps.” “Oh but have you DONE Galapagos?” No we are thinking about DOING Patagonia instead of Galapagos.”

You sound like bragging douchenozzles. How are know: you would never say you’re DOING IOWA even though you will spending your first week ever in Iowa this Thanksgiving

Thank you.

+1. I really disliked hearing people saying they are doing a destination. I also dislike when people order food this way. I’ll do a burger. Like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I haven't been to the Baltics in a while, but I used to travel there a lot. I agree that the capital cities are beautiful, and I'd include Tallinn in that list. If you want to go farther afield, take a trip to Kaunas Lithuania and in Latvia, maybe Liepaja?

These locations will definitely check your boxes of city and museums, plus historical sites. I'm not sure about the cycling/spa side of things as I haven't been there in a while.

The Baltics are fairly flat, so a great place for a bike trip. An organized tour may work best, as the countries are low population density, so best to have a guide who can work out where to stay each night where there are accommodations.

You can also drive around, it's easy as there's not much traffic between cities. Weather in summer is lovely if it's not raining, like 70s and sunny. It gets a little chilly at night.

If you like beaches, then Ventspils or Parnu are nice. It's sea not ocean, so not much wave-wise.

I spent many summer as a child in Parnu and Jurmala. It was lovely. But it was also 40 years ago lol so it's probably changed

Would worry about Baltics and a Russian invasion specially Lithuania.

I wouldn't worry about that since it will be our ally invading by then.

Be aware that poeple i in the Baltic states have no great sympathy for American tourists at the moment, as their government starts collaborating with Putin and American civil society gives a shxx about that.
