Anyone have their kids, or know anything about Owl School? Sounds really good, but would like to hear from someone who actually goes there. |

Where is Owl School and what ages do that take? |
they take children 2-5 yrs of age, I don't know the address but it's close to the World Bank. |
2 years ago, I was going to enroll my then 2 year old daughter. I toured the school and got feedback from some parents and thought it was a great choice. Showed up on the first day and after a half hour tried to leave but my daughter wouldn't let me so I stayed longer and I am very grateful I did. I think I was there for close to 3 hours and what I observed made me not enroll my daughter.
The teacher for the 2's had worked there for many years but she was terrible with young children. She did circle time which was reveiwing the alphabet and listening to a story. She expected the kids to sit perfectly still and she corrected - in a not very nice tone - any child who would even fidget a little bit. It was ridiculous. Then they did an art activity. Even when several kids said they were done with their drawing the teacher took their hand and forced them to color more and insisited they were not done. Next the kids did one of 2 things - they either played at the train table or they were to take a toy from the shelf and play with it at the table. They were corrected if they did not play with the toy properly. There was little to no talking going on except for one girl who was quite chatty but she was reprimanded to not speak so much or so loudly. A younger woman, an aide, came over and started to interact with the kids but after just a few minutes the other teacher admonished them all that they were too loud and things fell silent again. When a child bored of a toy, they were encouraged to keep playing with it and it was with annoyance that the teacher let them get up from the chair and pick another toy which they promplty had to sit down with. Remember, I was there the whole time watching. I can't imagine what this woman was like when someone wasn't there watching. Maybe she was just the same but I wasn't taking any chances. I took my daughter and left and didn't plan to return. Luckily, I had paid nothing more than a small deposit. Too be fair, the director is very nice, they do a good job of decorating the open space (no actual classrooms - just open space) and the kids who were in the 4 year old room seemed to be having a blast with their teacher so it could depend on which teacher your child has. I would advise anyone considering this center to go and observe for several hours before deciding to enroll their child. If I had not been there for a few hours, I would have not got a real sense of the place. A half hour visit or tour was not enough time. |
