Anyone titer for distemper/parvo or rabies? Trying to understand what reasonable cost should be. Getting quotes from $160-$330 for distemper/parvo, and $600 for rabies. Maybe it's my area but the vets seem kind of opposed to actually doing them. One practice even told me no. |
My vet charged me $100. |
Why do you need one? Has the dog had a previous vaccine reaction? Most places in the US have a law requiring vaccination for rabies and won't accept a titer. I suppose you could probably do a titer for distemper/parvo if you want, but it will be considerably more expensive than just following vaccination schedule. |
Do you have experience with the cost? That's the reason I posted. I do understand the issues and science about titering vs lifelong repeated & likely unnecessary vaccinating. |
Yes, but do you understand that despite a titer result your dog will be treated as unvaccinated? It won't be eligible for quarantine if it bites someone. They'll need to euthanize and send tissue samples for rabies testing. Is that a risk you are comfortable with? |
